Thank You Letter To Mrs Parkes

25/09/15
Glen Innes School
Room 11

Dear Mrs Parkes

As you have helped us over the year, I have learnt more. Writing a descriptive paragraph has been easier for me since  the beginning of this year. Starting the descriptive paragraph before the introduction was a great tip.

The 4 x 4 poem was interesting and fun. The difficult part for me was finding the correct word to contribute as the adverb. It was new for me and I enjoy learning new things. As you should know, we created a comic strip about our difficulties on writing a 4 x 4 poem and posted it on our blog.

When we did our combined story about the attributes, I now understand what some of the attributes mean. Like courteous, it means being polite, using your manners and listening to others.

The diamante poem was very easy to do. Our diamante poem was about the black piranha and I found it easy to find the nouns, adjectives and adverbs. I didn’t complete the bottom half of my diamante poem because I had to edit our movie for Manaiakalani.

I would just like to say thank you for all the suggestions that you have given us to improve on our writing, especially descriptive writing. I still need help on descriptive paragraphs because I do not include the senses.

Yours sincerely
Shanelle

Black Piranha

I created a black piranha using multi media. I used material as my fins and tail and I used paper for my scales. I also used foil for the teeth.

Attributes ( Yazmin, Shanelle and Andrea.)

Walt: write collaboratively.

Purpose: To improve my behaviour to make me more acceptable in society.

Topic: While planting fruit trees at school three friends find an old dirty lamp. They decided to wipe the dirt off the lamp when suddenly a genie appeared and promised to grant them three wishes. Each friend was allowed one wish.

“Wishes!” they all gasped. Shanelle shooted her hand in the air because she wanted to go first. “Please! Please! Can I go first?” Shanelle asked. Andrea and Yazmin agreed so that they had time to think of their own wish.

Shanelle wished:
“I wish to be kind. I always listen when others are having their turn to speak. I raise my hand instead of interrupting someone. Instead of saying “ you made us lose.” I always say “that’s okay” or “ just try harder next time.” If I treat people kindly then I will be treated kindly as well. At times I do get angry and I won’t be that kind but I try to improve on that. To improve I will try not to get upset at times so that everyday is a calm and relaxed. I should try and take deep breaths to calm myself down.”

Shanelle finished her wish and next was Andrea. She tightly shut her eyes and wished;
“If I had one wish, I would wish for everyone to be candid like me. I have always had candid conversations with my teacher, friends and family. I am honest and straightforward with whoever I speak to. Whenever I get the chance to speak to a visitor in our classroom, our discussion is mostly truthful. Most of my conversations have been direct. Not only at home and at school, but also in the community.  I am still getting used to having candid conversations with other people and even some students at my school. Sometimes, I lie to people to protect the people I care about. So I am trying to improve on this.”

Then it was Yazmin’s turn.
Yazmin wished:
“I wish to be courteous.I want to listen to my friends, family and elders while they are explaining something. I also want to let my friends or anybody else go first before I do. I love to use my manners to others. I want to show people how polite I am. I want to help my mum or dad with their chores from putting the groceries away to washing the dishes. While on the other hand I’m really clumsy/lazy so I want to try and improve my weaknesses. I will try and cope with all my work and chores.”

The genie had granted their wishes and everyone’s behaviour had changed. The genie disappeared with a snap of his fingers and as for the three best friends, they travelled the globe to discover more lamps and genies.

Technology - Wood Work

I created this key hanger in wood work at Tamaki College. I made this for my mum so that she can hang her keys or jewelry on it.

Walt: study my easttle results.

This is my maths Easttle results for term 3. I feel great that I have a 5b but that is the same result that I got in my last test. I need to work on devising a strategy to solve a fraction number problem and to explain the meaning of the digits in any whole number. I will do exercises and activities to help me. I’m hoping to achieve my goal of getting a 5a.

New Flag For New Zealand

I like the top right flag because it has very nice colours and it is similar to our original flag. It is similar to our original flag because of the four stars. The flag is also very bright. This flag represents New Zealand because it has the silver fern.

Solving Decimal Problems

Walt: solve decimal problems.

In this maths game I had to solve each decimal problem. I needed to know how to subtract and add decimals. It was easy except for question four. My answer was 4.25 secs but that wasn’t correct. Next time I would like to try question four again.

Converting Fractions To Decimals

Screenshot 2015-08-31 at 10.03.27 AM.png
Walt: convert fractions to decimals.

In this game we have to convert the fractions given to the correct decimal. I needed to know fractions and decimals really well. This was easy because I already knew how to convert fractions to decimals. Next time I would like to do more complex fraction problems.
