In this exercise we were learning to understand the concept of area. It was very interesting because we never did an exercise like this before during this year. I learnt that putting a pool in our backyard is very expensive. I enjoyed making this because it was very creative.

Anzac Day

Walt: commemorate Anzac Day.

We had assembled white crosses and planted them into the ground. The senior part of the school came to watch and Room 12 made crosses as well. We planted the crosses to remember those who had fallen during WW1. I had the name Herbert Badon Blakemore on my cross.

Write A Letter

Walt: write a letter.

Dear Parents And Guardians

Kia Orana, I haven’t seen you or heard from you for the last couple of years. I hope you are all doing fine back at home. It is great to finally write a letter to you. It has been difficult trying to cope without you.

Weather has been hot out here on the battlefield. It is very difficult to be in the sun 24/7. The weather does change and when it hails and rains it is just the worst. When we get in bed it is all mushy and yucky. I still sleep fine. I would like it out here without all the hail and rain.

Food has been okay. I have been eating bread and corn beef. There is not that much because we all have to share but it can keep me going throughout the day. I enjoy eating our dessert which is biscuits.

Trenches are not healthy. They are disgusting, mushy and yucky. There are always rats roaming around and they are leaving their rat droppings behind. Also the rats have been chewing on all my other letters that were supposed to be sent to you.

My mascot is named Freda. She is a dog. She cheers for me when I am out on the battle field. She is 14 years old ( in dog years ) and she is great. She is a real friend to me.

A lot of injuries has happened over the last couple of years. I haven’t got injured yet and I am sure that I will come home safely. Do not worry because I know you are those types of people.

So I hope that you are all doing fine and please reply back to me.

To your loving daughter:
Shanelle

P.S. Send me some chocolate please.

Problem Solving With Mrs Bina

Problem Solving With Mrs Bina

Today a maths facilitator came to help us learn problem solving in a group. Her name was Mrs Bina. We first had a discussion about respect. Everyone should work like a team player.

Then she had given us a maths problem. There was a cake and it was cut into 3 equal pieces. ⅔ was eaten. Moana and Henri wanted to half the last third into equal parts. What fraction will they both get?

It was sort of easy and the most challenging part for me was talking. I enjoyed learning more about maths and I hope she will come again. I helped my team figure out the answer for the problem because they didn’t know what to do. As soon as I explained the rest of the group understood and they fixed it up.  Next I would like to have more complex maths problems.

Trenches - Working In A Group

Screenshot 2015-03-31 at 14.43.24.png

This is a model of a trench in World War 1. I worked with Lauren and Yazmin.

First we planned on how we were going to build it. We then chose the easiest plan. Yazmin and Lauren built the trench with playdough. We then painted it and made it look like a real trench. I painted the sandbags, periscope and food. In our trench we had a dog, rat, periscope, first aid kit, food, sandbags, bed, cards and a gun. The easiest part to do was to paint all the play dough.

I learnt some new facts along the way. The soldiers normally sleep during the day. Trenches are muddy and yucky. The soldiers eat bread and corn beef. Next I would like to build a larger model of our trench. I would rather work in a group because it is much easier.
