The Lyrebird

A drop of sweat is running down my face as I shut the passenger door. I'm holding my camera in my hand as I begin to walk into the forest. I can see many birds but none that you haven't seen before. As I'm marching through the dirt, suddenly I can hear many noises. I begin to creep up to the bird and I know that this bird is a Lyrebird. I once learnt about it at school.

The lyrebird is sure to be found in the forests in South Australia. It has a superb singing voice that can impersonate up to 20 different species. It can also imitate other noises it can hear in the forests such as car alarms, foresters using their chainsaws, camera shutters and Australia’s National bird, the Kookaburra. It has pitch black eyes, and a long black and white tail similar to a peacock. The lyrebird clears a part in the forest to show off its magnificent tail feathers. It persuades female birds by singing a complex song using all the different sounds in the forest and the pitch of its voice can go from high to low.

I am now finish with taking photos of the Lyrebird. I am walking back to my parent's car and I can hear a car alarm. I got to the car and it wasn't my parents car making the noise. I'm thinking that it was the Lyrebird.

Hi Shanelle
Reading your story about the Lyrebird was really impressive. It has plenty of descriptive words which created an image in my head. I also wrote a descriptive writing on the Lyrebird. It's kinda similar to yours. I especially like your opening sentence. It's really powerful. Did you know any information about the Lyrebird before you watched the video?

Keep up the great work Shanelle. It's amazing!
